How to use placeholders in your communications

Pogozo has a number of placeholders that automatically populate real details when the email, SMS and push notification is sent. This guide explains what they are and how to use them in your communications.

Placeholders are smart auto-fill tags you can add to your communication templates that automatically fill in the right information for each client when the message is sent - things like their name, appointment details, or a link to confirm their booking. Instead of manually personalising every communication, placeholders do the hard work for you, saving time and making sure every client gets a message that feels personal and relevant.

How to add placeholders into your templates

There are two ways to add a placeholder into your communication template, either manually typing it in from the list below, or selecting it from the drop down menus in the template edit screen.

To add a placeholder to a template head into Settings then click Communication & Marketing.

You can utilise placeholders in Email, Push Notification, and SMS communications. Select the type of communication template you're wanting to add the placeholder to, either Email, Fancy Email, Notification or SMS.

If you're creating a new template select + Add new template.
If you're editing an existing template click the Three dots to the right of the template then select Edit.

Placeholders are grouped by subject in dropdown menus across the top of the content textbox - for example, client-related information sits under the Client dropdown, appointment details under Appointment, and so on.
To add a placeholder, click the relevant dropdown menu and select the information you'd like to be automatically populated in your communication.

TIP Appointment and class placeholder are different. Make you you are using the correct placeholders for your class and appointment communications such as reminders and bookings confirmations.

When you're finished creating/editing your template click Create template / Update template button to save your template.

Do placeholders work in adhoc communications?

Yes! Placeholders work exactly the same way when you add them into a once off Email, SMS, or Push Notification as they do in your templates.

You'll find the dropdown menus available when sending a message from the Communications section of the client's profile.

TIP Appointment and class related placeholders will only work in communications sent out from the appointment or class booking (such as booking confirmations and reminder messages) They will not be populated when sent from the Communication section of the client's profile.

Call-to-action placeholders

A call-to-action placeholder inserts a clickable link into your email that prompts the client to take a specific action. There are currently two action placeholders available in Pogozo:

[[EmailMarketingUnsubscribe]] - this creates a clickable Unsubscribe link that will disable the email marketing communication consent in the Client's profile.

[[ConfirmMyBooking]] - this creates an Appointment / Class confirmation link that adds a white checkmark on the booking in the Calendar
Note: this placeholder will only work in communications sent from a booking so that the client response can be linked to the booking, e.g. in your confirmation email
