What are Shop Variants?

Shop variants relates to different variations that may exist in respect of a particular item. For example, T-Shirts may be broken down into different types of variants, such as sizes - small, medium and large - and colour for example, green, red and blue. In such circumstances, you would have red T-Shirts, small medium and large, blue T-Shirts, small medium and large and green T-Shirts, small medium and large. To insert such information into the creation of this item, you would:
Click Add Variant.

Further fields will then be created for you to apply your variants.
In the above example, you may choose to select a variant name of size in which case, you would write the word 'Size' in the field for 'Variant Name'.

In the field for 'Variant Values' you may type in 'Small' and then press 'Enter' and that will create a field.

Continue by typing 'Medium' and click 'Enter', and type 'Large' and click 'Enter'.

Once you have created the variant name and values,
click Save.

Once you click on the 'Save' icon, that will then create a 'Variant Stock Management' field, which is addressed further below.

In relation to the variants themselves, you can add more than one series of variants. In relation to our example above, you may want to have colours and sizes as linked variants.

To do so, click Add Another Option.

You would then enter in the new variant names 'Colour' and then in the variant values, enter, eg., red enter, blue enter and green enter.

You would then click Save.

That may take you to a pop up that advises you that since the variants have changed, the stock, all original variances will be set to zero.

Click Confirm.
That will then expand the variant stock management section referred to earlier.

If you then go to the variant stock management section of the page, you have the opportunity to insert details of the number of each variant that is available and you get to allocate each variant an SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) being a number (usually eight alphanumeric digits) that you can assign to a product to keep track of the stock internally.
